    Ane Trolle
Ane Trolle was born in 1979 and grew up in the rural town of Sorø where she was playing with her friends, riding horses, and loving the forest. No one in her family are musicians so her musical upbringing came through the walkman which played a lot of Queen, Duran Duran and Blondie. Another major early musical influence was her frequent visits with a friend to Broby Gammelskole. A place where music was always played while people were eating, drinking and bawling. It was a mix of hobos, gypsies and buskers and it was a great inspiration. When Ane was about 16 years old she enrolled in a continuation school with a music class. Here she learned seven chords on a guitar and began strumming songs for her friends and that’s where she discovered her ability to sing.

Ane is far from being a trained singer. Her formal education is limited to the mandatory years in primary school and then three years of free youth education (a system many young Danish people benefited from until the government discontinued it in 2001). But this wasn’t where she developed her singing. The real education for Ane has been her many years freestyling on the Copenhagen club scene.

At the age of 19 she began utilizing her strong appetite for partying to develop a talent for improvised singing, which has given her the ability to spontaneously sing a song to fit any given music. Whether it is hiphop, jungle, reggae, house or electro the DJ is spinning. Freestyling was her breakthrough in the underground. Here she sang both organized with various DJs and spontaneously when she would just grab the microphone in clubs, at raves, parties, demonstrations and even concerts.

After having freestyled in the Copenhagen underground for eight years Ane quit her job and decided to be a real singer. One day she was visiting her friend Martin who had just made a cup of coffee and a new beat. In his bedroom, with a worn out mic wrapped in a stocking, she improvised a song about being “ready to blow”. The recording was released as the single Sweet Dogs which gave Ane her radio breakthrough, her first gold record and motivation to buy a good microphone and a new computer so that today she records in her own living room.

Cooperation has been a keyword for the work of Ane Trolle so far. Most singers are launched as either solo artists or as part of a band. But Ane has been a feature artist on records by Trentemøller, F.U.K.T and Peder and at the same time worked on her three simultaneous bands JaConfetti, Trolle//Siebenhaar and Balstyrko. And she has yet to release a song in her own name.

During only half a year her characteristic voice managed to get the famed top playlist spot on the national music radio channel P3 three times in three different constellations. Also it has already given Ane several prestigious awards and nominations.

But it is still the music itself and the chemistry in the collaborations which motivates Ane Trolle. She is dreaming about creating more quality music and having fun at the same time. Improvisation is still a big part of her performance when she goes on stage with a band or DJ. When the stories and words gets created at the venue. It´s her favorite thing.

    AnniOne
Hi. My name is AnniOne (I was one of two Anni's at school). I'm a songwriter who lives in Aarhus, Denmark. My songs are mostly about travel and trouble. In that order.

My latest CD is called "Little Blue Globe." The tunes are set all over the map, in places like Miami and San Francisco and Japan and the south of France, and in airports and on buses. Funny enough, I haven't even set foot in all those places ... yet. I guess globetrotting is sometimes just a state of mind.

On my first album, "AnniOne," the songs were set a little closer to home ... between the sidewalk cracks and traffic sounds and candlelights and cigarettes and leaking roofs and laundry lines. I guess happiness is sometimes just a state of mind too.

Besides my own stuff, I've also written for artists here in Denmark. And, in the last two years, I've worked (and played) in places like London and Los Angeles. And especially New York. How I love love love that city!

These days, between baking too many biscotti and brewing chai tea, I'm working on a new disc. My favorite piece (so far) is a quiet waltz called 4000 Miles. Like I said, most of my songs are about travel. And trouble.

    Ben Mallot
"Ben Mallott's pearl snaps and patterned cowboy boots on the cover of his debut LP are a bit misleading. Although he's backed at times by some solid steel and gently chugging rhythms, the Austinite's propelled by his impressively soulful vocals. Opener "Heartbreaks" showcases an impressively subtle range, and though there are touches of Damien Jurado, Daniel Lanois, and even Ray LaMontagne's mellow grit, Mallott winds with dexterous versatility. Unexpected horns blaze mariachi on "Purgatory's Last Massage Parlor" and Memphis on "I Want It All," while "Love Is Cold Water" bounces with B-3 organ and a New Orleans' jazz romp at the end. The sway behind Mallott's low, breathy swells on "The Artful Dodger" counter the rockabilly piano romp of "Cold Feet." Eliza Gilkyson lends her vocal magic to "Shotgun Suzy," and tender numbers such as "Leaving," "Over Time," and the darkly twisted "Just Like Angels" are all beautifully wrought" - Doug Freeman, Austin Chronicle

"His profile shoots up with the release of 'Look Good, Feel Good.' First-rate songwriting." - Michael Corcoran, Austin American-Statesman

"Meet Austin's Dave Madden. The Austin-American Statesman says of Dave's music, ‘If someone walked in mid-chorus, he or she might think it was a lost track from the Coldplay's Parachutes sessions.’ His music is earthy, his songs intelligent and well written, his voice downright sexy in that whisper/raspy/creaky way I like so much." -Amanda Newman, finelinelive.com

In the midst of a singer/songwriter sea of throaty voices, Dave Madden is a pleasant surprise. A talented guy, yes: His songs are altogether catchy, yet fraught with meaning. His delivery is impeccable. Trained at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, he moves deftly between the piano and various guitars. He's got a penchant for writing music that lodges itself into your head. His sexy delivery, combined with a body and soul investment into each performance, keeps his fan base loyal and growing.

    Hush
You take a teenage street performer influenced by the classic singer-songwriter tradition and a former heavy metal guitarist who has grown bored with speed-rock and is looking for something a little more soulful.

You put them together to write some songs. Along the way they fall in love and make three beguiling albums of country-tinged melodic rock that take them to the top of the Danish charts. That, in a nutshell, is the story of Hush.

Listening to Hush, it's hard to believe that guitarist Michael Hartmann began his career in heavy metal bands, having left his native Denmark at an early age to make his way in America. "I lived in LA for a while and played speed-rock. That was the stuff I was into. But I grew bored with its limitations and wanted to do something that was more real and had more subtlety and nuance," he says.

Back in his home town of Randers in Denmark, he set up his own home studio and began the search for a female vocalist who could help give shape to his new, gentler musical vision. Enter Dorthe Gerlach, at the time just 17 and still at school. "My dad heard her busking in the town square one day and said I should go and check her out," he recalls.

Steeped in her parent's record collection of classic '70s rock and singer-songwriters such as Tracy Chapman and Suzanne Vega, Dorthe came from a very different musical background. But as soon as Michael heard her sing, he knew her voice was exactly what he was looking for. His first approach received short shrift. "He asked if I'd I like to come to his studio and record something. But I didn't know if he was after my money or what, so I sent him packing," she laughs. He persisted and after a second visit, Dorthe was persuaded that he was serious. "He was so persistent I agreed to go to his studio and we did a song and it was immediately obvious it was going to work," she says. "It was magical."

Indeed, ‘magical’ is a word that suits the wonderfully melodic tunes, the jangling guitars supported by mandolins and banjos, atmospherically augmented by mellotron and strings and gloriously sung by Dorthe in a voice that reminds you of a young Stevie Nicks. And Hush have always found a place, and a platform, for their music in Denmark, their rootsy, classic country sound with pop sensibility certainly stepping them out from the Danish mainstream.

Their first album “A Lifetime” was released in Denmark in 2004 and built slowly until by early 2005, it had risen to number one and gone gold. But their music also seems tailor-made for export, too. The growing interest in this debuting act from Denmark resulted in the release of “A Lifetime” in the rest of Scandinavia, Germany and U.K. and sent them touring in countries such as Canada, Holland and Italy. Furthermore their song “Lovestruck” was chosen for a striking VW television advert, and shown all over Europe and Asia.

The hard work being undertaken outside of Denmark resulted in Hush picking up The European Border Breakers Award at MIDEM Fair in Cannes (2006).

Hush went on to record their sophomore album “For All The Right Reasons” which spawned a massive hit with the title track “For All The Right Reasons”. The track was in the top three of the most played tracks on Danish radio in 2007. As a result, the album went gold and audiences flocked to their concerts, where on one particularly beautiful spring day in May 2008, they played in front of 15,000 people on the lawn at Copenhagen’s famous Tivoli Gardens.

Hush quickly returned to the studio to begin recording their third and latest album ’Backroads’. The album was recorded in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Los Angeles. ’Backroads’ presented their strongest set of songs to-date, and featured the singles “Where The Sky Meets The Sea” and “Imperfect”.

After a busy year of touring in their native Denmark, Hush now release a UK collection of songs from their first three albums. The first single is “For All The Right Reasons”. The aim is to emulate the success of this massive airplay hit in the UK and then around the world.

With the song just play listed on England’s biggest radio station BBC’s Radio 2, the first step is taken.

Austin singer/songwriter Kacy Crowley is back with her third independent release, Cave. Produced by Billy Harvey (Steve Poltz, Bob Schneider), Cave is an offbeat yet completely relatable collection of songs that feels more like a first record than a third. With guest spots from Kevin Lovejoy and The Tosca String Quartet, Cave mixes an indie spirit with hummable pop melodies.

"...Cave, Kacy Crowley's fourth disc, while definitely dark, sounds more like a resounding triumph, a fresh beginning instead of a burning loss. ....the pixie-ish singer-songwriter also possesses the ability to deliver the deceptive, upbeat title track, which is just one of the reasons Cave is one of the most intriguing local releases of the year." (Jim Caliguiri, The Austin Chronicle May 2008)

"With an earnest voice that calls you from the first notes, Kacy Crowley captivates on Cave, her fourth release. She marries offbeat poems with simple, well-crafted tunes---and I swear there's an '80's vintage Casio keyboard on a few tracks---to produce a varied CD that everyone can relate to." ”Stemning til forandring” 1999, ”Bli´ved med at rejse” 2001, ”Happy End” 2004. Especialy ”Hvornår kan vi ses igen” og ”Uden dig” from ”Happy End” got a lot of attention from the national radio station DR P4

After nearly 10 years and 3 albums with ”DeMarco”, Svenningsen went solo. And in 2006 he released ”Ingenmandsland” still on his own label ”Rarlyd” together with ”Exlibris”

All the way he’s been touring in Denmark with his band or solo. Over 1000 gigs so far…

Svenningsen has the last 2 years worked with english lyrics as well, mostly translated some of his own songs. Trying to pitch them.

Leaving A Small Town has just released their debut album - with a bunch of great songs lyrically dealing with lust of life and the many ways of love, and instrumented with the fine combination of light female vocals and dark lord voice, rusty guitars and an atmosphere of wide open spaces and the longing for far and foreign places.

    Lene Dissing
Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. As a little girl I started playing the piano, singing and writing my own songs. I believe my first song was called “My Little Kitten” During my teenage years I performed as a singer in different bands. At the time I had only very little interest in writing my own songs. I even went to Danish School of Music for 4 years, as I believed teaching would be my thing. I soon realized how much I missed writing my own stuff and my life took another turn.

In 1996 I met John Gordon, a Danish Songwriter and many, many songs was written during the next period of time. We formed the band “Steam” and in 1998 we released an album called “ talking about the weather.” The release was a success in Denmark. Several of the songs from the album were played regularly on both DR (Danish National Radio) and local stations. The first single "Lover" was on DR´s hot rotation for 8 weeks, several of the big local stations played it as powerplay of the week. A few years later the album was released in Asia as well.

After a couple of years touring, more studio sessions e.t.c. the band split up. Still Gordon/Dissing released an EP a few years later called “Luca”. 6 songs all together.

During the last couple of years I have written/co-written songs for different artists worldwide. It’s been a pleasure to write with different Danish, Swedish and American songwriters; Daniel Boquist, Rasmus Schwenger, Douglas Carr, lyricist Pam Oland to name a few.

Some songs has even been co-written using the Internet. That’s the case with L.A. producer Jean. T. Na... and it’s been great fun.

Besides writing, I’ve done some cue vocals for different producers, arranging and recording backing vocals, some live performance e.t.c. Whatever the job might be. The network is getting bigger all the time and I’d say anything is possible..

I'm looking forward to more years of great songs and lots and lots of co-writes.

    Matt the Electrician
Once upon a time, there was a youg man named Matt Sever. He lived in Austin, TX, and he worked as a journeyman electrician. Every morning, when it was still dark outside, he would go to work, and wire houses all day long in the blistering Texas heat. When he would come home, again, it was dark outside. And then, sometimes, with no time to shower or change his clothes, he would go straight to the bars and nightclubs of Austin to play his songs for whomever would listen. And he would apologize for his appearance, and explain to the audience that he was an electrician, and he found a certain nobility in this, even if no one wanted to sit too close to the stage. So they called him Matt The Electrician, and he did not mind this, for he was proud of himself, for there is no shame in a hard days work.

But eventually, he quit his job as an electrician, to spend more time writing and playing songs, and the name stuck with him, because everyone needs an electrician sometimes. And there are some who say, that when the moon is full, and Jupiter is aligned with Mars, you can often hear Matt The Electrician in the distance, wiring a house, and whistling softly to himself.

Celeste has developed the music emergent in her and cultivated her own unique brand of intimate songwriting. Her rugged, feminine lyrics combined with her smoky vocals make for dreamy yet anthemic music.

Monarchs’ EPs, “The Oak EP” and “Those Words, Those Frames,” are the sonic equivalent of a summer evening on a back porch. Roar Amundsen
Roar Amundsen has a very solid education and experience within the music business. In 2000 he graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a Masters in Musicology. From 2001-05 he was in charge of a music venue in Horsens (DK) arranging 100 concerts a year with a staff of three employees plus 50 volunteers. www.kulisselageret.dk

Inspired by all the live music he started writing his own danish songs in 2004. He established the songwriter club The Write House in 2005 arranging monthly acoustic concerts where artists from all over the world could play, meet up and get new connections.

In march 2006 he released the EP ”Forløs Din Drøm” and ended up playing a lot of solo concerts all around Denmark and Sweden.

In 2006 he also started the freelance company Mayday Music arranging festivals, workshops and working as a tourmanager in collaboration with KODA, ROSA – The Danish Folk Council, FFS – the Danish Folk Council, DR (Danish National Radio) and many others.

2007 gave birth to Songcrafter Music – a record label established with fellow songwriter and friend Martin Hoybye under the motto ”All about the Song”. The label has released 7 records so far from its roster of 6 different artists gaining a reputation as a quality indie label - winning its first Grammy in 2009. www.songcrafter.dk

In 2007 Roar started teaching songwriting to a bunch of talented students at Engelsholm Castle building up a lot of experience in the psychology of cowriting and musical development of all kinds of artists. www.engelsholm.dk

Right now Roar Amundsen is recording his debut album which is scheduled for release in 2010. www.roaramundsen.dk

Musically Roar Amundsen has his roots in a very danish music tradition represented by ”Hojskolesangbogen” - a legendary songbook containing traditional songs written by melodic masters like Carl Nielsen, Oluf Ring and Thomas Laub and with lyrics by some of the greatest poets in Denmark such as N.F.S. Grundtvig, Benny Andersen and Frank Jaeger.

Roar Amundsen´s melodies are clear and beautiful with a special Scandinavian melancholy to them. The lyrics are poetic and purposely a little old fashioned but quite straight forward. Roar has often been compared with artists like Sebastian (DK), Alberte (DK), Teitur (FO), The Beatles and Nick Drake.

The music, with its acoustic approach somewhere between pop and folk, creates an atmosphere of intimacy, dragging the listener close to the speaker.

    Rolf Heitmann
Somewhere between Americana, Folk Rock, and Indie. At present I listen a lot to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, but I’m also swept away by artists like Jesse Sykes, Johnny Cash, 16 Horsepower, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Bob Dylan etc etc. I’ve been struggling for a professional music career for about five years now, but I’ve been playing always. I’m the lead singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitar player in a band called Bewildermen (http://www.bewildermen.com), and with those guys I have published two professionally produced, official but off-label EP’s. The first one titled Not Unforgiven (2006) was well received. The stuff on http://www.myspace.com/bewildermen is from that CD. Since then I think my vocal performance has developed quite a bit and the songs have become less rock-oriented. My more recent work is available in low-tech demo versions on http://www.soundvenue.com/artist/bewildermen

Also I’ve written quite a few lyrics for a Danish band called Sugar Daddy. Finally I’ve written poetry for and performed it in an experimental music-and-poetry act known as De Røde Pølsers Nat (The Night of The Red Hot Dogs) (http://www.myspace.com/deroedepoelsersnat).

I can’t live off of my music, so I work as a helper for a guy in a wheelchair, though my education is Ph.D. in American Literature.

More often than not my lyrics deal with current political themes and try to advance social awareness, as I believe every man and women is responsible for the state of the world. Of course songs about love and other emotional and psychological imbalances can also be found. I always keep it personal - but universal through honesty.

    Vanessa Lively
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Vanessa learned to appreciate the hues and vivacity of foreign cultures, developing a sensitivity to diversity that would later stoke her thirst for travel and openness to new experiences. Though she first found her voice in the realms of art and painting - as one may notice from the evocative imagery she wi elds - music was always on the edge of her palette.

While recording the album Let Me Rise, Lively befriended a traveler from England, named Stefan Pope. Their simple friendship would grow into a professional collaboration as he co-produced Let Me Rise, and, over a year later, invited and housed Vanessa and her husband in his native country to record their next album A Chain Unbroken.

Vanessa's music speaks to dreamers, artists, laborers - all of us alike. She strikes a chord with the root of humanity; poetically elocuting the essence of our life.
