Steven MacDougall draws from a vast and diverse musical vocabulary — Folk, Country, R & B, and Rock and Roll — all influenced by his Cape Breton musical roots and world-wide travels with his award winning band, Slowcoaster. Whether it’s the high energy, danceable rock sound of his band Slowcoaster, the country tinged material he has placed with Jimmy Rankin, or the thoughtful and compelling compositions he releases as a solo artist, the depth of his lyrics and melodic hooks are consistently present in his work.
A songwriting machine, Steven collaborates often. He makes frequent writing trips to Nashville, has participated in the House of Songs in Austin and recently returned from his first writing trip in LA. His co-writes and placements include Grammy award winning Gordie Sampson and multiple award winner Jimmy Rankin. His most recent radio success was George Canyon’s “Slow Dance” which hit #14 on the Canadian Country charts in 2013.
